For her final module at uni, Amy Jo created a short film that expresses the importance of teaching creative arts subjects in secondary schools. "It is thought that traditional academic subjects offer the best chance of progression at GCSE level. The film features many of Bodmin College's talented students and inspiring teachers - you may recognise a few! Watch below

Screen Printing Workshop: Tote BagsPenrice Academy joined us for a taster day last week at Bodmin College. We had two groups of art students take part in our screen printing workshop ran by the art staff and two of our experienced Art Ambassadors, Daisy and Gabriel. The students quickly had to come up with their own pattern design to draw straight onto an empty screen with oil pastels. The design then acted as a barrier for the ink when used for printing, leaving the pattern on the tote bags in a colour of their choice. The students then printed a second design on top of their pattern - we used the portraits of various celebrities (including Taylor Swift, Adele, Ariana Grande, Emma Watson, Benedict Cumberbatch and Manny MUA) created by our talented year 9's to feature on the bags. We hope the students had as much fun as we did, and hope to see some of you again soon! Here are some pictures of us making a mess in the print room... CRATE Artwork by our CReATivE Art Students
On the 16th May the official opening of our 6th form Crate Café took place. This was a really vibrant and stunning evening. Our extremely talented 6th form students studying A Level Art, Craft & Design completed the interior design and decorative features for the café. The quality and printing of the textiles, soft furnishings and aprons are stunning and wouldn’t look out of place in a high end store. Menu boards are adorned with stunning tropical illustrations and vintage wooden circular tables include sunken ceramic embellishments. The crate is a tropical feast for the eyes and a stunning space for our students and staff to dine on gorgeous hand prepared snacks and lunches everyday. Aspiring Artist’s visit Arts University Bournemouth
On 14th June the Year 12 Fine Art and Art, Craft & Design students and the Year 10 Art & Design students visited the final Degree Shows at Arts University Bournemouth, this was a fantastic opportunity for our aspiring, budding artists to see the stunning work on exhibition. Bournemouth offer a wide range of courses in the arts from performance to costume design, fine art, architecture, model making, animation, illustration, photography and many more. The day was a great success and our students were wowed by the sheer volume and variety of work. This was added to by the student ambassadors who took them on a tour of the campus, this included ex Bodmin student Dan Annear who is studying Performing Arts and was a very inspiring tour guide for the day. It was also and absolute joy to see ex Bodmin student, Jacob Palmer’s final degree exhibition in Architecture. He has successfully achieved a 2:1 and is continuing onto a career in Architecture with a Scandinavian firm. Jacob’s work really brought home the community spirit of Bodmin College when you see he has based his project on Child’s Play and ran workshops with our Year 9 students to gain inspiration for his final architectural designs. |
